About Andrew Wenzel

(Andrew is pictured on the right)
I worked in Antarctica for a long while as a shipboard lecturer specializing in marine mammals. I took a bunch of photos then.
I worked as an underwater photographer on an underwater documentary tv series for a couple of years and took more photos.
I’ve been a naturalist and guide in the Arctic, the Galapgos, Alaska and other locales off and on for many years.
I was part of a whale research group for a bunch of years which seems like a long time ago now. Hunh,… it was a long time ago.
A lot of my photos are sold through a stock agency, consequently, I’ve had images published all over the world for all sorts of things. I’m doing a little more commercial work these days. That’s a good thing. It pays the bills and I like it.
What else can I tell you? I like kayaking. I love seafood. One of my favourite things to do is to go clamming and collecting oysters and then steam ‘em all in a big pot right there on the beach with a coconut-curry-cilantro sauce. It’s so amazing I can’t stand it. My favourite colour is ocean-tourquoise just before it turns into those really deep ocean bits. I have two cats. Oh yeah, and hockey. Hockey’s good. Go Canucks!
I’m leading a really exciting photo tour to The Falkland Islands and Patagonia next year - Jan. 17, to Feb. 3, 2008. 17 days. 3 guides. 10 guests. Hundreds of thousands of penguins. Check out the cool website for the tour: www.natureviewstours.com
I have created something unique and special with this tour. The Falkland Islands are a VERY special place. Imagine what The Galapagos Islands were like 50 years ago. The Falklands are that special without the visitors. Approachable wildlife. Cool endemic species like the Falkland Islands Flightless Steamer Duck. The Striated Caracara. 4 ton smelly elephant seals. You won’t believe what it is like to be able to spend all day long at a penguin colony if you want to. Just you and the wildlife. You’ll know the penguins so well you’ll know them by name. And there’s always a beer at The Globe.
Oh yeah and an amazing ice trek on top of a glacier in Patagonia and a wine tour in the Maipo Valley and Torres del Paine Park and dinner with Chilean folk music and ostrich-like birds called rheas and condors and it’s silly really, how much fun it’s going to be. 3 guides. 10 guests. Penguins. You should come.
